Is The Chevy Volt Butt Ugly? 

We’ve been waiting long and patiently for the launch of the Chevy Volt. Not it is here and a bit disappointing. There is the whole gas thing, but is the car just butt ugly? 

Alternative fuel cars have always reminding me of computer programmers. They may be incredibly good at what they do, but they really aren’t much when it comes to looks. I like the Prius, but its design can best be described as “quirky”, which is a nice way of saying something more directly negative. 

The Chevy Volt was supposed to change it. We all saw the sketches. It looked, dare I say, aggressive and manly. Finally! We would have an alternative fuel car for the manly man. Heck, it would even be electric. That would make us manly men with a soft green side. Sort of like the Jolly Green Giant…no, wait, disregard that!

Then the Chevy Volt hit the street. Wow. What a disappointment. Aggressive? Nope. The flat angled roof? Gone. The sharp lines? Gone. This isn’t a manly man car. It is…well, what you would expect an electric car to look like. It is soft, curvy and screams “save weight.” There is nothing wrong with this look IF Chevy had been honest and shown us all that this is what it would look like from the get go. Alas, they didn’t. 

Now let me state some things before the angry emails start coming in. Yes, I realize the fact an American car company is releasing an electric vehicle is a big deal. Yes, I realize the car needs to be light and aerodynamic given the electric motor. For all I know, this may be the best electric car ever built. It just isn’t what they originally suggested it would be. 

American car companies are infamous for promising a lot and under delivering. I would suggest that is exactly what has happened here. What next? That hydrogen monster truck they are promising is really just going to be a pickup?
